Can PlayStation 3 New 'Save' Sony?

Can PlayStation 3 New 'Save' Sony?

In recent months, sales of the PlayStation 3 is not too good, in fact stagnant. So can the new variant boost console sales?

Based on data from market analyst NPD Group, in the United States, the PlayStation is no longer a top-selling game console, overtaken its main rival the Xbox 360.

In addition to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita sales also increasingly lethargic. And Sony had to correct these handheld console prices to be more affordable.

Data from NPD also write financial reports Sony is less encouraging. Throughout the months of April to June, a Japanese manufacturer that had a net loss reached $ 314 million.

Well, in the midst of a poor financial condition, Sony introduced the latest generation PlayStation 3. Lighter, leaner, and have lower production costs than the previous generation.

"The shape is more compact not only more attractive to consumers, but also reduce costs in production, shipment and storage," analyzes Piers Harding Rolls, Head of Games from IHS Screen Digest.

Apart from the cost of production to be trimmed, the latest generation of PlayStation 3 is also expected to open the new opportunities for Sony to compete with Microsoft.

"It (the new PS3-ed) will open the door for better margins Sony, and give them the opportunity to be more aggressive towards 2013," said Harding-Rolls, as reported by the bbc and quoted on Thursday (09/20/2012).

Latest PlayStation 3 does offer a fresh look, but this console is still too expensive, so it would be difficult to compete with Nintendo Wii U will be launched from 18 November 2012 in the United States.
